Race VS. Skin Color:

What is the history of the race? How did it originate?
What does it mean to be a “social construct”? |
How US history has shaped “race” as a social construct for BIPOC’s? We will discuss historical moments of US history (1619, Native American Colonization, Sylvia Mendez) to highlight issues of Race.

Week 3

Exploring Whiteness:
What is white privilege? What is access? Discovering the difference between Equity vs. Equality. |
Speaking Truth to Power:
What is an upstander vs bystander? Allyship; what does it mean to be an ally and accomplice? |
Week 4
Becoming a Changemaker:
|
What are the qualities of a changemaker?
Presenting Art as a form of activism using musical context as well as graffiti artists (ie: Banksy) as a form of expression. Students will learn about the different ways to advocate for change. |
Project Launch: Young Changemakers set out to create their own call of action.
Outreach program is launched and students continue the project well after the completion of the course. |
